The Riverbend High School Swim Team scandal shows the injustice of rewarding the head coach that falsely accused and defamed the character of a student while firing the principal that attempted to protect the student. Here are screenshots of an email exchange between the school administration (Amy Williams), the activities director (Jesse Lohr), the swim team coach (Rachael Adriani) and the parent of the student that was target of the swim team coaches.

• On December 20, Head Coach Rachael Adriani emails activities director Lohr and principal Downs about the removal of a student from the swim team for the false accusation of video recording
• On December 21, Head Coach Rachael Adriani emails all the swim team parents and players about the student removal due to the false accusation of video recording. Shortly after this, head coach Adriani is suspended.
• On January 4, the school administration sends out an email saying that the accusation by Head Coach Rachael Adriani is false and unfounded, and the player reinstated. We cover that in an earlier article – https://spotsywire.com/2024/01/11/the-riverbend-swim-team-scandal/
• Around January 22-23, Head Coach Rachael Adriani is reinstated to the swim team despite defaming the character of the student with a false accusation. To the best of our knowledge, there were no consequences to her behavior, not even an apology.
• On January 23, the parent of the student requests an apology from the Head Coach for the false accusation
• On January 23, the administrator Amy Williams states no apology will be provided.

It is clear that the Spotsylvania County School Division is unable to protect students nor follow any “best industry” practices regarding coach/student interactions. Instead, the Spotsylvania County School Division promotes an environment of emotional abuse towards children with no consequences towards the adults that create the abuse. This all has happened under the watch of the new school board led by Nicole Cole and Lorita Daniels. This is what you voted for Spotsylvania County !
