After Spotsylvania County School Board Chair Megan Jackson used the color of law to infringe on Shamgar Connor’s free speech based on her subjective claim that the speech was racist, the following exchange regarding first amendment rights occurred in the lobby. This exchange was captured on Deputy Fleming’s body worn camera.
Citizen: “Didn’t you swear to uphold the constitution?
Deputy Fleming: “Am I going to tell my boss no?”
Citizen: “Which is it, your constitution or your boss?”
Deputy Fleming: “My boss signs my paycheck and I got to have a paycheck”
Deputy Fleming said the quiet part out loud. The Deputies are there to enforce Sheriff Roger Harris political positions instead of protecting the constitutionally protected rights of citizens. His paycheck is more important than the constitution. It is interesting that Roger Harris has no problem with deputies violating first amendment rights by removing citizens here in 2025. When a similar issue occurred in 2022, Sheriff Roger Harris stated the following to NBC4:
“When the chairman of the school board says to the deputies, ‘I’ve heard enough. You can get ’em out of here,’ the morale of the deputies over the past several months has just decreased rapidly, and when we’re asked to do things that are obviously a violation of the First Amendment … It’s a depressing job to be there and be treated — to see the public treated the way they are by members of the school board, primarily the chairman“
Does Roger Harris feel the same way now? No because his political priorities of supporting the far-left take priority. Harris has endorsed many candidates such as Megan Jackson, Larry Dibella, Rich Lieberman, and others. If Larry Dibella gets on the school board, will he make school board policy based on Sheriff Roger Harris political priorities? Dibella earns nearly a $100,000 salary according to GovSalaries. If Dirty Dibella is elected, he will take his orders from Sheriff Roger Harris.
